Jeffrey (Jeff) Brown: NOCCCD Trustee

What a concept...working for the people!

Community colleges have never been more important. NOCCCD provides low-cost education to nearly 78,000 students, including returning veterans, displaced workers needing new skills, young adults preparing for university transfer, and residents of all ages who value education to improve their lives.

 

As your trustee, I focus on long-term effectiveness and fiscal responsibility. Community colleges belong to you, the public. A trustee's primary role is to represent and protect your interests while ensuring an excellent education for students. I have been an independent voice, asking hard questions and insisting on accountability. I am not any group’s "special interest” candidate.

 

Trustees oversee a $574,000,000 construction bond and a $250,000,000 annual budget. As a Registered Professional Engineer, I have the expertise needed to ensure that we receive the most benefit for each tax dollar spent.

Trustees establish policies, set overall budgets, and assess the results of the professional NOCCCD employees (faculty, staff, and administrators) who carry out those policies. Trustees do not write the curriculum. They do not set tuition fees. They do not determine the courses high school students take. Anyone who suggests otherwise is not being honest with you.

 

My wife, two daughters, and I attended Fullerton College, and I have been a local homeowner for 42 years. In addition to a Master's degree in Engineering and a Master's degree in Public Administration (with a specialization in public finance), I have over 40 years' experience in project management, taught in public schools, and served as a Director for two nonprofit organizations.
